While initial programs installed in your computer will be up to date at the time of purchase they will not be up to date for ever. The most common mistake with such programs is failing to update them. A older edition of antivirus will be able to detect and remove only older versions of spyware. Often times computers are infected with the latest rendition of spyware which older antivirus programs do not protect against.
