It is estimated that 90% of computers with connections to the internet will be infected with spyware software at some point in time. Additionally it is estimated that computers connected to large networks have a higher chance of becoming infected with spyware then a computer with no network connections. Spyware works in such a way that it often goes undetected and can be transmitted easily through un-secured downloads or network connections. Computer spyware is designed to infiltrate all the boundaries on your hard drive and, eventually, take over your entire compute. These types of spyware are able to release and store personal information as well as control your computer and override your commands. If detected early enough spyware is fairly easy to remove and can cause little to no permanent damage. However, often times as soon as spyware becomes detectable it has already caused some permanent damage.
If you are concerned about your computer and computer spyware that may be present within your hard drive then there are some things you can watch out for that will indicate the presence of spyware. It cannot be stressed enough how important protection programs truly are to protect your computer. Much, if not all, spyware software can be blocked by such programs so there will never be a need to cleanse your computer. However, if your computer is exhibiting any of the following signs it is important that you install a spyware protection program as quickly as possible to reduce your hard drives permanent damage.
Advertisements: Many computer spyware programs display advertisements such as pop-ups, tool bars, or even internet home page changes. Often times if a computer is infected with spyware there will be an abundance of pop-up ads that occur every time the user attempts to use the internet. Additionally spyware software has the ability to control your internet so often times infected computers will exhibit changes in the overall appearance or functioning of the internet.
Stealware: There are some types of spyware that are designed to remember and steal personal information that you may have used online. Most commonly the software will remember credit card numbers you have used to purchase items online. The spyware will then take that information and report to other online companies using your credit card information. If you see strange charges to your banking account immediately notify your bank and purchase computer spyware protection programs.
Leaking of Information: Because spyware was originally designed to infiltrate computer systems to detect behaviors of users it is able to uncover and unlock all types of files. Often times if a computer is infected with spyware you will begin to receive a number of spam e-mails in your personal e-mail accounts. This is because the spyware has released your personal e-mail address to other viruses on the internet. The e-mails are an attempt for other viruses to be downloaded to your computer to aid the spyware.
